As I child I loved playing with LEGO, and still do if I have the time! I think the ability to sit down and create something completely random for 20 minutes is a great way to relax. My other inspiration behind the LEGO table was for it to be used in more public places (e.g. offices) whereby people sit down, pick up someone’s previous work and add their own contribution.
The table design is very simple with a central building area in the centre and a rotating outer ring. The outer ring contains recesses for the LEGO and raised flat areas for usual junk such and magazines. The central building area can be replaced with different environments – in the same way one buys different styles of LEGO. For example a city, mountains, pirates, space etc. Ideally the environments themselves would be detailed with features such as lighting and water.
Not knowing where to start with this design I contacted LEGO to see if they were interested. From what I can tell my design was circulated around and it was given good feedback. But not being a furniture producer I think they were also confused about how to take it forward. It is hard to know if I should try and involve them or just market it separately and throw in a collection of LEGO with the table!
